Arosa is an idyllic summer destination, offering a range of activities and dining options that cater to gluten-free travelers. From its scenic hiking trails to its welcoming restaurants, Arosa stands out as a celiac-friendly town in the heart of the Swiss Alps.

Start by researching the various gluten-free restaurants in Arosa. Many establishments are now well-versed in celiac disease and cross-contamination prevention, making it easier for families to enjoy a worry-free dining experience. Popular gluten-free dining spots include Restaurant Gspann and Hof Maran. Most Restaurants will provide you with information on what dishes are gluten-free or can be adjusted to be gluten-free. But as always – ask questions, explain your dietary needs, and double-check for cross-contamination.

Next, familiarize yourself with the local supermarkets like Coop and Denner. These stores offer a wide selection of gluten-free products, including packed bread, pasta, snacks, and dairy items. Shopping at these supermarkets ensures you have access to safe and delicious gluten-free foods throughout your stay.

Arosa is a paradise for outdoor enthusiasts offering amazing activities. The vast hiking trails provide stunning views and family-friendly hiking experiences. Along these trails, you’ll find mountain cafés offering (limited) gluten-free options such as French fries and ice cream, perfect for refueling after a day of adventure. Most popular hiking trails in Arosa

Discover Arosa’s Breathtaking Hiking Network: 200km (124miles) of diverse trails for all ages and skill levels. Here are my favorite ones:

Hörnli Trail

Length: Approximately 4.5 kilometers (2.8 miles)
Getting There: The Hörnli Trail starts at the Hörnli-Express cable car station in Arosa. Local buses can take you from various points in the village to the cable car station. The bus schedule is somewhat frequent (depending on the season), making it easy to reach the starting point without hassle. You can also walk to most major destinations.

Suitability for Kids: Suitable for kids aged 6 and above.
Trail Description: This trail is perfect for families and offers a relatively easy hike with stunning alpine views. As you walk, you’ll be surrounded by the breathtaking scenery of the Swiss Alps, lush green meadows, and the occasional glimpse of local wildlife (cows and marmots). The trail is well-marked, ensuring a stress-free adventure. Along the way, there are several rest spots where you can take a break and soak in the views.

Food and Dining: For meals, you have a couple of options. You can pack your own gluten-free food from local grocery stores like Coop and Denner, where you’ll find a variety of snacks and meal options suitable for celiacs. Alternatively, there are mountain restaurants along the trail. However, these restaurants have limited gluten-free options, so it’s crucial to bring your own food to ensure your dietary needs are met.

Weisshorn Trail

Length: Approximately 7 kilometers (4.3 miles)
