Helping Celiac families explore the world safely and joyfully, one destination at a time.
Hi there! I’m Laili Wasserstein
I’m Laili, a family travel writer helping Celiac families explore the world without fear.
I’ve traveled to 15+ countries with my family, navigating restaurants, kitchens, and menus in multiple languages so my son, who has Celiac disease, can eat safely and we can still have an incredible trip.
This blog is not a medical resource. It’s a travel guide built from real trips, real restaurant calls, and real meals tested at the table. For medical advice about Celiac disease, please consult your doctor or gastroenterologist.
Nothing on this blog is medical advice. Always consult your doctor for Celiac-specific medical decisions.
Why I Started This Blog
When my son was diagnosed with celiac disease, and later my spouse, our entire approach to food, travel, and daily life transformed overnight. I’ll never forget the anxiety of planning our first family vacation after the diagnoses – spending hours researching restaurants, calling hotels, and worrying whether we’d made the right choices.
Since 2019, I’ve researched and visited gluten-free restaurants and accommodations in 15 countries – Had hundreds of conversations with restaurant managers about cross-contamination protocols – Made plenty of mistakes (so you don’t have to!) – Learned to read ingredient labels in German, English, Italian, Hebrew, French, and so many more – Developed systematic approaches to safe travel planning that our family relies on. What started as a necessity – keeping my loved ones safe while maintaining our adventurous spirit – evolved into this blog: a mission to help other families navigate gluten-free life with less stress and more confidence.
I know firsthand the uncertainty that can accompany gluten-free travel and dining out. From anxiously scanning menus to navigating unfamiliar cities, I’ve been there. That moment when you’re in a foreign country, your child is hungry, and you’re not sure if the “gluten-free” translation is accurate? I’ve lived it. I believe that celiac disease doesn’t have to limit our adventures or happiness. That’s why I created this space: a travel resource built specifically to help Celiac families plan trips with confidence, and actually enjoy them.
How I Research Every Destination
Every restaurant recommendation on this blog has been personally vetted with my family’s safety in mind. I don’t just compile information from menus – I ask the hard questions: About fryers, prep surfaces, staff training, and ingredient sourcing – Document protocols: What works, what doesn’t, and what red flags to watch for – Share honest outcomes: Including the times things didn’t go as planned – Update regularly: Because restaurant procedures change, and you deserve current information. I’m not a medical professional or a nutritionist, but I am a fierce advocate who has become an expert out of love and necessity. My superpower? Asking every possible safety question so you know exactly what to expect.
What’s in the Guides
Whether you’re newly diagnosed or a seasoned gluten-free pro, you’ll discover:
Comprehensive Gluten-Free Travel Guides:
Meticulously researched destination guides based on my family’s actual trips, including: restaurant recommendations with detailed safety protocols, cross-contamination risk assessments, grocery shopping tips, gluten-free product availability by city, key phrases in local languages for communicating Celiac needs, and honest assessments, because not every destination is equally Celiac-friendly.
Practical travel planning guides: how to research a destination before you go, what to pack, how to communicate your needs in restaurants abroad, how to handle a glutening on the road, and what I wish I’d known before our first international trip with a Celiac child.
Real trip reports and honest reviews: what worked, what didn’t, and what you need to know before you book, so your family’s trip is memorable for the right reasons.
